Solid conditioner bar 65 g: detangle without a plastic bottle

Shampoo bars have found a place in many bathrooms; their partner, the conditioner bar, is less well known. The idea is the same, though: a concentrated product with no bottle, which fits in your hand and slips easily into a travel bag. You just need to know the right technique, which is a little different from using conditioner out of a tube.

What is this solid conditioner?

A conditioner smooths the surface of the hair after washing, so that a comb glides through more easily and fewer knots form. The solid version is a bar that you glide directly over wet hair.

According to the product sheet, this 65 g bar detangles, nourishes and restores shine to all hair types without weighing them down. It is formulated without quaternary ammonium compounds, detangling agents found in many conventional conditioners, and the sheet states that it is gentle on sensitive scalps and suitable for frequent use. Its scent is described as fresh, fruity and invigorating, with organic grapefruit.

How to use it

• Wash your hair with your usual shampoo and rinse well.
• Squeeze the lengths with your hands: dripping hair dilutes the conditioner.
• Glide the bar down the lengths and ends two or three times. If your hair is fine, keep away from the roots.
• Spread it with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb, detangling gently from the ends upwards.
• Leave it on for a minute or two while you finish your shower.
• Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm or cool water.

For long or very thick hair, first rub the bar between wet palms and apply the thin layer with your hands: it spreads more evenly that way.

Making it last

A solid bar's main enemy is standing water. After each use, put it on a draining soap dish out of the shower spray and let it air-dry. When travelling, wait until it is dry before putting it in its tin.

Precautions

For worry-free use. For external use on the hair only. Avoid contact with the eyes; if it happens, rinse thoroughly with clean water. If your scalp is very reactive, try it on a small area first. A wet bar can make the shower floor slippery, so keep it out of the way. Store out of the reach of children.
