Sweet orange and calendula soap: a sunny scent for the shower

When the days draw in, we look for light everywhere, even in the bathroom. Sweet orange instantly brings to mind sun-ripened fruit, and calendula extends the picture with its orange flowers. Combined in one soap, they give your daily wash an almost summery feel.

Two ingredients, one soap

According to the product sheet (see the documentation tab), this superfatted soap is scented with organic sweet orange essential oil, which gives it "warm scents", and enriched with calendula (pot marigold) petals included in the bar. It comes wrapped in transparent paper made from wood fibre.

Sweet orange

The sweet orange tree (Citrus sinensis) gives us the everyday eating orange. Unlike most essential oils, its oil is not distilled but obtained by pressing the zest, the outer layer of the peel. Its scent is round, sweet and fruity, less sharp than lemon – one of the most universally liked citrus scents, popular with adults and children alike.

Calendula, or pot marigold

Pot marigold (Calendula officinalis) belongs to the daisy family (Asteraceae) and is easy to spot thanks to its yellow-orange flower heads. Easy to grow, it flowers for a long time in gardens and vegetable plots. Its petals have long been used in cosmetics, for example as an infused oil; here they are included directly in the soap.

How to use it

• Wet the bar and lather it between your hands or on a washcloth.
• Wash your body with gentle movements; the petals may give the bar a slightly speckled look, which is normal.
• Rinse with lukewarm water, then pat dry with a towel.
• Let the soap dry on a draining soap dish between uses so it stays firm for longer.

An idea for guests

Its warm, crowd-pleasing scent makes it a good soap for the guest bathroom, or a small gift just as it is, in its paper wrapping.

Precautions

Before first use. This soap contains an essential oil: if your skin is reactive or sensitive to fragrance, test it first on a small area, such as the inside of the elbow, and stop using it if redness or discomfort appears. For external use only; avoid contact with the eyes and rinse thoroughly with clean water if it happens. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for a young child, please ask us for advice.
