Organic shea butter 500 g: rich body care for the winter
When dry air and heating leave your skin feeling tight, a rich body care step after the shower makes all the difference. How to use organic shea butter from the 500 g jar all over.
Contents
As soon as the heating comes back on, many people notice it: the skin on their legs feels tight after a shower, their arms itch under a wool jumper. Dry indoor air, hot water and the chill outside all put skin to the test. To get through the winter months, a rich body care product applied at the right moment makes a real difference to how your skin feels – and pure shea butter is very well suited to the job.
What sets this shea butter apart?
Shea butter comes from the kernel of the fruit of the shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa), which grows in the African savannah. It is solid in the jar and turns soft as soon as you warm it in your hand.
According to the product sheet, our organic butter comes from shea nuts from West Africa and has been deodorised: it smells more neutral than raw shea, so you can use it all over without a strong scent. The sheet describes it as very rich in unsaponifiables and vitamins. Unsaponifiables are the part of a fat that does not turn into soap when it meets lye; shea is known for containing a high proportion. The sheet also says it helps maintain the skin's elasticity and suppleness.
How to build it into your routine
Straight after the shower
- Choose a short, lukewarm shower rather than a very hot one.
- Pat yourself dry without rubbing and leave the skin slightly damp.
- Melt a small knob of butter between your hands, then apply it area by area: legs, arms, stomach, shoulders.
- Massage in circular movements, focusing on the places where the skin feels tightest.
- Give it a few minutes to absorb before getting dressed.
For a lighter texture
If pure butter feels too rich for the whole body, mix a little of it in your palm with a few drops of a plant oil you like. The blend spreads faster and leaves a less greasy finish.
What about hair?
The sheet also mentions hair care. A very small amount, melted between the fingers, can be smoothed over dry ends, away from the roots.
Precautions
Before making it a daily habit. For external use only. Test the butter on a small area first, such as the inside of the elbow, and watch your skin for 24 hours. Avoid the eye area. If your skin is very reactive or you have a skin condition, ask for advice before use. Use a clean spatula, close the jar tightly and store it away from heat, out of the reach of children.
