Goat milk soap with lemon eucalyptus: a fresh start to the day

Some scents wake you up better than coffee. The zesty note of lemon eucalyptus, somewhere between lemongrass and a freshly crushed leaf, is one of them. In this soap it comes with a gentle goat milk base: a pairing designed for everyday washing, especially when your skin tends to feel tight.

What is this soap?

According to the product sheet (see the documentation tab), it is a superfatted soap enriched with goat milk, described as extra mild and intended in particular for dry skin. It comes wrapped in transparent paper made from wood fibre, a welcome detail if you are trying to cut down on plastic in the bathroom.

"Superfatted" means the recipe contains slightly more fat than the saponification reaction can turn into soap. Some of the oils therefore remain free in the bar, which gives this kind of soap a softer feel and leaves skin feeling less dry after rinsing.

Lemon eucalyptus, a eucalyptus apart

Lemon eucalyptus is a tall tree native to Australia. It was long known as Eucalyptus citriodora and is now placed in the genus Corymbia. When crushed, its leaves give off a distinctly lemony smell, quite unlike the camphor-like scent of other eucalyptus species. It is this light, fresh side that you find in the soap.

How to use it

• Wet the soap and your hands with lukewarm water, then work up a lather between your palms or on a washcloth.
• Spread the lather over your skin with small circular movements, without rubbing hard.
• Rinse thoroughly with clean water and pat your skin dry with a towel rather than rubbing.
• If your skin is very dry, follow with a body cream or body oil applied while the skin is still slightly damp.

Making the bar last

A superfatted soap is softer than a mass-produced one. Keep it on a draining soap dish, away from the shower spray, and let it dry out between uses. You can also cut the bar in two and keep one half in its wrapping.

Precautions

Good to know. This soap is for external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes; if it happens, rinse thoroughly with clean water. If your skin is reactive or you know you are sensitive to certain fragrances, try it first on a small area, such as the inside of the elbow, and stop using it if redness or discomfort appears. For washing a baby or young child, please ask us for advice.
