Evabio Jonquilla soap: jasmine and orange blossom by the basin

We wash our hands more often than we think: when we come home, before cooking, after gardening, before sitting down to eat. That repeated gesture might as well be a pleasant one. A floral soap by the basin changes the mood of a bathroom or kitchen, and Evabio's Jonquilla soap was designed with exactly that in mind, for hands and body alike.

What is Jonquilla soap?

According to the product sheet, this soap is scented with delicate notes of jasmine, orange blossom and musk. It is a superfatted soap, made by the cold-process method and naturally rich in glycerine: the sheet says it cleanses the skin while keeping it comfortable and soft, with a creamy lather. A bouquet of white flowers

• Jasmine is one of the great flowers of perfumery, with a rich, sunny scent.
• Orange blossom comes from the flowers of the bitter orange tree; in the kitchen it is known as orange flower water.
• Musk adds a soft, enveloping note that makes the scent linger on the skin.

What difference does 'superfatted' make?

To make soap, fats are reacted with lye. In a superfatted soap, the soapmaker adds slightly more fat than the lye can convert, so a small share stays in the bar as oil or butter. The result is a soap that cleans while leaving a softer feel than one that is not superfatted, which is welcome when you wash your hands often.

How to use it

• Wet your hands and the soap, then rub for a few seconds to build a lather.
• Wash every surface: palms, backs of the hands, between the fingers, nails and wrists.
• Rinse with clean water and dry carefully, especially between the fingers.
• In the shower, use it the same way all over the body.

Making it last

Cold-process soap is softer than industrial soap. Always keep it on a slatted or ridged soap dish, away from splashes, and cut the bar in two if you use it in two places: each half dries better between uses.

Precautions

For worry-free use. For external use only. Avoid the eyes; if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly. If your skin is reactive or sensitive to fragrance, try it on a small area first. Stop using it if you feel any discomfort. Keep it out of the reach of young children.
