Honey is not just for breakfast. It already featured in beauty recipes in antiquity, and today you find it in soaps, baths and masks. When your skin feels tight after the shower, especially in winter, a honey-based routine is an indulgent way to give it a little more comfort.

Why honey in cosmetics?

Made by bees from flower nectar, honey is naturally rich in sugars. It has the ability to attract and hold on to water (it is described as hygroscopic). That is one of the reasons it has long been appreciated in skin care, whether in soaps, bath products or masks.

Evabio honey soap

According to the product sheet (see the documentation tab), this soap is superfatted and made by the cold-process method. The sheet explains that this way of making soap gives a bar that is naturally rich in glycerine and retains the nourishing, softening properties of the raw materials. In other words: gentle cleansing, designed not to leave your skin dry and rough.

A quick reminder: in cold-process soap-making, the oils and alkali are mixed without prolonged cooking, then the soap dries slowly. The glycerine formed during the reaction stays in the bar.

A honey routine in three steps

1. Daily washing

  • Lather the soap between wet hands or on a washcloth, using lukewarm rather than hot water.
  • Wash without rubbing, rinse with clean water and pat dry.

2. The weekend bath

For a longer break, the Dermasel milk and honey bath (400 g + 20 ml) takes over. Its product sheet describes it as nourishing and softening for the skin. Measure it according to the directions on the pack, enjoy water at a comfortable temperature and finish with a quick rinse if you wish.

3. A mask for the face

The honey face mask (20 ml) rounds off the routine: according to its product sheet, it nourishes and moisturises the skin. Apply it to a clean face, avoiding the eye area, leave it on for the time stated on the pack, then rinse with lukewarm water.

Precautions

Worth remembering. These products are for external use. Avoid contact with the eyes and rinse thoroughly if it happens. If your skin is reactive, test each product on a small area, such as the inside of the elbow, before first use, and stop if redness or discomfort appears. For a child, or if you have a question about a skin problem, ask our team for advice.
