Eucalyptus radiata essential oil: a fresh, camphor-like scent

Softer than classic eucalyptus but just as fresh, eucalyptus radiata is diffused for a pleasant feeling of fresh air. How to use it and which precautions to take.

Contents

There are hundreds of eucalyptus species, and they do not all smell the same. Eucalyptus radiata is often chosen for its fresh, camphor-like scent, a little rounder than that of its cousin, eucalyptus globulus. At home it brings a feeling of fresh, clean air – especially welcome when you are spending more time indoors.

What is eucalyptus radiata?

Eucalyptus radiata is a tree of the myrtle family (Myrtaceae), native to south-eastern Australia. Like other eucalyptus trees, it has evergreen, aromatic foliage full of tiny oil glands that you can sense when you crush a leaf.

According to the product sheet, our eucalyptus radiata essential oil has a "fresh, aromatic scent" and is described as refreshing. The organic version in a 10 ml bottle is described on its sheet as having a "fresh, camphor-like aroma, suited to diffusion". To understand how essential oils are grouped according to their main components, see our sheet on essential oil families.

How to use it

Our drugstore team recommends it for diffusion and suitable inhalation – meaning dry and occasional.

In a diffuser

  • Add a few drops to your diffuser, following the instructions and the size of the room.
  • Diffuse for 15 to 20 minutes, then switch off and open the window for a moment.
  • For a fresh, bright blend, pair it with lemon; for a woodier note, with black spruce or pine.

Dry inhalation

  • Put one drop on a cloth or paper handkerchief.
  • Breathe in the scent calmly, a few centimetres from your face, with your eyes closed.
  • Afterwards, put the handkerchief away out of the reach of children.

For any other use, particularly on the skin, please ask us first.

Which version?

Both references offer the same freshness. If you prefer organic, go for the 10 ml organic bottle, which its sheet presents specifically for diffusion; otherwise, the classic reference is perfectly suited to scenting a room.

Precautions

Rules to remember. Do not swallow it or apply it neat. Keep it away from the eyes. Do not use this oil near a young child's face, and ask for advice before any use for children, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you are on medication or if your airways are sensitive (for example if you have asthma). When diffusing, keep sessions short and the room well aired. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of the reach of children.
