Some scents make you want to settle in by the fire straight away. Atlas cedar is one of them: a dry, woody, warm aroma reminiscent of wooden chests and carpenters' workshops. It is one of the easiest essential oils to adopt for a moment of relaxation.
What is Atlas cedar?
Atlas cedar, Cedrus atlantica, is a large conifer of the pine family (Pinaceae). It grows naturally in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and Algeria. Its fragrant, durable wood has long been prized in carpentry, and it is from this wood that the essential oil is obtained.
According to the product sheet, this is an essential oil "with a warm, woody scent". We classify it among the sesquiterpenols, a family explained in our sheet on essential oil families. It comes in three versions: the classic reference, an organic 10 ml version, described on its sheet as "ideal for aromatic uses", and a second reference with the same woody scent.
How to use it
Our drugstore team recommends it for diffusion, cosmetics and massage – always diluted on the skin.
To scent your home
- Add a few drops to your diffuser's tank and diffuse for about 20 minutes at a time.
- For an evening atmosphere, blend it with citrus or lavender: the woody note forms the base of the blend.
- No diffuser? One or two drops on a porous stone or a piece of untreated wood will discreetly scent a wardrobe.
For a feel-good massage
- Dilute the essential oil in a neutral vegetable oil (sweet almond, jojoba…); ask us for the right ratio.
- Test the blend in the crook of your elbow the day before.
- Slowly massage the neck, shoulders or back for a genuine moment of relaxation.
In cosmetics
One drop added to a single dose of neutral shampoo or body cream as you use it gives your routine a woody signature, without synthetic fragrance.
Precautions
Good habits. Do not apply it neat and do not swallow it. Avoid the eyes and mucous membranes; stop if any redness appears. Ask for advice before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, for a child, or if you are on medication. Close the bottle tightly and keep it out of the reach of children.
